HAPPY 2014!

Sorry for such a delay, I know I haven't updated dA in ages :P

This journal was due a long time ago but I've been pushing it back ever since IA OPO 2013, in hopes I would get exciting stuff done in the meantime to show you and talk to you about. September to December were pretty hard times for me and I was in no mood to get cool stuff going. Uni was also sucking the little strength I had left, like a Dementor feasting on my happy thoughs, so as much as it pains me to say everything got a bit... on hold.

But new year new life, right? I wasn't useless all along and I do have more stuff to show you now, so I guess that end of the bargain worked. However, I haven't been back home for long enough to use a sewing machine and dive head-first into cosplay, so I have no pictures, tutorials or progress news for you... sorry cosplayer friends ^^;

Off to it, let's end this silence in three parts!

Youtube

Well, yeah my old youtube project is pretty much on hold, but I have a NEW YOUTUBE PROJECT. I've been doing first impressions for the new anime season in vlog style, and will probably keep going with full reviews, anime covers, and other stuff I feel like doing since it's my channel and I can do whatever the hell I want with it! :3

If you want to check it out, I have Winter 2014 first impressions for Space Dandy, Hamatora, Noragami, Buddy Complex, Nobunagun, Nobunaga the Fool, Pupa, Tonari no Seki-kun and Strange+ so far. I've been updating it pretty often so expect some more videos soonish!

Cosplay

You probably have seen my finished Haiji cosplay by now. I mean, holy cow three months passed by since then!!!

Iberanime was a really fun experience, even if very tiresome. Some of my friends came to a convention for the first time :iconwixcat: :iconlithiumbreath: :iconlacrymosa-am:, which was pretty darn awesome, and Wiscat and her No Face cosplay was arguably the most popular cosplay of the weekend! :D I was really glad that people recognized me even though the character was from a not all that well known manga, and everything was fun. The organization kind of sucked more this time, and there was no proper space for our Para Para Dances, which was the saddest thing ever :(

Still I got to meet Wanda :iconwanda-chi: and Loke :iconlokeva: in person after following them for so long, I met really nice people on the artist booths, and I found people I haven't been with since like forever (Sofia :icondarkwings16:, it was so amusing that we were trying to recognize eachother under our cosplays even though we'd met during the summer xD)

ANd I did get to meet Calssara :iconcalssara: , that lovely lovely girl, and talk to her for a while! Got pics with her and her autograph and all that jazz. She's one of my idols when it comes to cosplay, and her personality is just sooooooo shiny :3 If you're reading this by any chance, THANK YOU SO MUCH <3 You're adorable and really fun to hang out with, I hope we can meet in the future!!

Me looking derpy and awkward next to Calssara, the goddess. Isn't she gorgeous? :3

In terms of cosplay plans, they remain the same, although I willl be cosplaying Medusa from Soul Eater before Nekozawa since, as it turns out, I didn't have enough fabric for his cape...
Can't you just tell how noob I am at cosplay? Yeah... ^^;

Blurbarians

Since the last time I advertised our blog, there has been lots of cool stuff going on over there, particularly thanks to Vit :icongerivaz: and Diogo, my friends who write about videogames. Me and Tessa :icontessblack: upped our game today and posted our own updates, so feel free to check our reviews if they interest you ;)

» Anime reviews

» Book reviews

» Video game reviews

That's all for now! You can find me in the usual places if you wanna drop me a word (or kick my shins for not doing stuff like this as often as I should) and now you can also find me on Hummingbird, and on Twitter which I use more often than MyAnimeList.

Hope to see all you guys there! 37. Eyes

FACT: it's July.

It seems ridiculous that it's now July. At least I can't wrap my head around it, that being the reason for my writing it that pretentiously, with a fact tag and all. Where did my June go? Where are all the things I was supposed to have achieved in this three weeks? Why, gods, why is August now so close, and after that September?

"But Miana... there's 60 days between now and September!!"

Yes, random voice, there are. So it shouldn't be possible to think July and feel September already, but the fact is that I do, because starting next Monday I'll be in Oporto for 3 weeks. Then I'll have one week to breathe before another two weeks. Then I'll be close to Sintra for my two weeks of family vacations. Then it IS September.

Granted, I've been living the high life here in Aveiro. Staying up as late as I want, sleeping all morning, doing only what I feel like doing, not what needs doing. I started many things and did a bit of everything that I've kept waiting. I even updated the review blog several times. That's why I thought I would update you guys on the state of those things how I'm going to leave them before going off on my vet-related experiences.

Reviews
Since my last Blurbarians advertisement, me and the other two lovely folks at the Blurbarians blog have put up the following new things:

» Anime reviews

» Book reviews

» Video game reviews
» Other things
What inspiration is worth

Check them if you're interested, please! And for the anime lovers out there, my next anime review will probably be Durarara!

Cosplay
Some of you might have been surprised at my latest cosplay deviations Newton's Apple and Beelzenef, since I was planning to do Shiro from Deadman Wonderland. That is my design (:bademoticon: anyone?), I swear, but it's on hold since the fabric I needed for Shiro's bodysuit is sold out. Since I was bored with not being able to work on cosplay while I had time, I decided to cosplay Haiji from the manga Hungry Joker and Nekozawa-senpai from the anime Ouran High School Host Club.

Now, I don't know when I'll have these ready. There were far more mishaps than there should have been, from the fact that my sewing machine is broken to not having enough fabric to finish Nekozawa's cape. So there's a lot, and I mean a lot. missing. I'm not a fast cosplayer. Chances are I will only finish them by September. Maybe even later, in case I can get my hands on the goddamn fabric for Shiro. So, don't expect big things from me, aye? ^^; While I'm away from home I will have no sewing machine so I'm stuck to cutting and tacking fabric, which means I can't even keep at Haiji and Nekozawa. I guess I will start Aisaka Taiga's blazer to complete/improve my first cosplay.

The Randoms
"If you aren't even sewing, what else do you do with your life?" Well, I HAVE been doing things. I started to learn guitar and Mandarin by myself. I've started singing and recording covers of anime songs more regularly and trying to transcribe a few piano pieces. I should study piano properly, too, but can't say I do *lazy*. But mostly, I caught up with lots of anime and wasted much time on my computer. I've also finished reading Life of Pi, by Yann Martel. I couldn't remember last finishing a book, given how I only read 3 books the last six months or so, so let's say it felt like a new breath of life!

Lastly, I've been playing Pokémon, and Trine 2, and Spirits, and Evoland, because that's what you do when you have games and free time. You play them. :icondslagamerplz:

To all the LoL addicts out there, I might start playing soon. I'm also on steam, so feel free to kick my virtual arse from time to time :3

See all ya lovely people later!

Phoew! I finally have time to write an update on my life and projects, now that I'm officially on holidays until September!
It's been a while, hasn't it, guys? ^^; In that case, let's get started, shall we?

This semester was as heavy as a dead horse. And I should know, since that was one of the many animals that paraded through our necropsy tables (note: necropsy means autopsy but for animals) and slid under our knives :necrohug:. Fret not, though, the tiger from the title was alive and kicking. Patience, young Padawan, patience... we'll get there.
As always, I had eight subjects for the whole semester, which means not only an absurd workload but an ongoing test season from March up until last week. Furthermore, I still had my English classes to teach, and when I got home all I could do was either panic,  pretend to study, or die. All in all, this amounted to three major things: feeling constantly on edge, being less and less efficient and putting all my projects on-hold. It is fair to say that this was the hardest semester so far in my time at Uni, and people tell me next year will be tougher so...there's that.

In any case, there were some highlights as well. I had le amazing Iz, my flatmate, to help me through, and hopefully help her at times though I'm hardly the best person at helping anyone. I had le amazing Wiscat as well, to put up with my rants and meanness towards humans in general. I don't think I'd have survived without both of them :glomp: And, amidst chaos and incompetent people, I had a couple of amazing teachers who actually cared about what they were teaching and were fair and informed. Too bad they're a rarity and seldom get the recognition they deserve!

Of course, the top two moments of my semester had to be Iberanime LX 2013 and my trip to Maia Zoo, near Oporto.

Iberanime Lx was very important for me since it was the only time I had to be surrounded by other people with the same tastes and think about something that wasn't work. I don't think it was a perfect event, since there were some problems with the organization, at least the day that I went, and the schedule didn't allow much room to check everything. Nevertheless, I was able to meet such amazing people and make some small-scale photoshoots!

As for the zoo, it was the most surreal day. I caught a ride with a couple of teachers and a couple of students, and we visited both the public side of the exposition and the backstage facilities. I held a snake, played with an orphan baby lemur that was being hand-fed, and...
*drumroll*
I petted a tiger! Exaltation Dance
It was a female tiger, 6-months old, that had been hand-fed like the lemur, due to the incapability of her mother to raise her. Since one of my teachers had helped there at that time, she asked if it was still okay to go see her. I tagged along and went inside the enclosure with the awesome lady that was responsible for her. It was dream-like. I cannot explain. All the while, inside I was going squeeeeeee! :flail: Felines are my favourite animals, and I've always wanted to go near them, so you can say that one of my wildest dreams became true that day. Apparently my jacket still has some dirt from the paws but I couldn't care less!

So, that's enough about the past months.
What of the future?

For one, animals are my future. An animal hospital for exotic species allowed me to go there during the summer, and the nice people at the Zoo will also be taking me in for a couple of weeks. That makes this a very busy season, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!
During my free time, I'll finally catch up on my reading, gaming, review writing, YouTube posting, and cosplay. It's also in my plans to go meet some friends I made during IA or through dA. Hopefully, I'll be able to try a couple more things than that. We'll see what time allows me to do, but I'm very happy that it's Summer this year!

That's all for now, folks, but stay tuned if you want know what I'm up to.
Self-advertisement and updates to come very, very soon!

Ladies and gentlemen, after a very busy January, I can now safely say that most of my projects have left the ground!

I've mentioned things I might do, before, but at the time these things were plans and nothing else. Distant ideas, similar to the way I want to learn the violin and tap dancing, but probably never will. These ideas were more easily achieved than that, still I doubted I could ever make it. So I didn't talk much about them. Afraid to jinx it, per say. The thing is, I'm intensely critical of the content I produce, more so when I consistently watch and read stuff from people I find brilliant. So, to be honest, I was frightened to throw my stuff out into the open. Even now, I am a bit afraid I won't be able to cope with creating content, my huge pile of mandatory workload (aka pages and pages of stuff to memorize), and my never feeling satisfied with my abilities. My working season is officially open, too, which means I have to split the time between University, Felicita's blazer which I've now started, and wanting to make another flash project or two before classes get deathly demanding.

Nevertheless, things HAVE started, one way or another. Which means I already got one step further than I thought I ever would. Might as well share what I've been up to, now that I know that the projects kind of work.
So, here it is.

I hereby declare this post a post of shameless self-promotion!

Top-Secret Project 1: my Youtube channel (link!)

Okay, so I have this habit of bombarding people with random facts that are mostly useless, but which I keep in my head because I find them interesting. My friends, specifically, know they have to put up with this every now and then. Well, one of these days I was watching science shows and other channels I'm subscribed to on youtube, when I thought - why not? I could be doing that too. I was always curious about the process of making an animated video, anyway. Thus I picked up a subject and tried to make a video for it.

And I really did. It's not very professional, since I know very little of animation and my mike is not the best thing on planet Earth, but my first FactFeed video is up and running.

» Episode 1: Horse's fake nostrils

I might do something different with this channel in the future, like vlogs or whatever, but for now it's already weird to have my voice online. Stay tuned and expect more silly animations from me!

Top-Secret Project 2: Blurbarians (link!)

Reviews are something I've been meaning to do for a while. The original idea was to create a blog about books, one about anime and one about tabletop gaming. However, my friend Vit already had a video game review blog and kindly accepted my proposition of turning it into a more varied site. In the meantime, the lovely Tessa jumped on the bandwagon to collaborate with us.

The blog is still small but rapidly growing. For now, you can read the following reviews:

» Anime: Angel Beats!
» Books: The Invention of Hugo Cabret
» Video games:A Walk in the Dark
» Table top games:Tsuro - The Way of the Path

That's all for today, folks!
Check this stuff out, I really hope you enjoy it! Oh, and of course, feel free to drop me suggestions any time!
